Meghan Markle Bends Royal Protocol During Brixton Visit With Prince Harry
Meghan Markle made another fashion statement on her first royal engagement for 2018.
On Tuesday, Prince Harry and the “Suits” actress visited Reprezent 107.3 FM in Brixton to support broadcast training for young adults. In the said outing, Markle stunned in her black round neck bell sleeve wool sweater by Autograph from Marks & Spencer. She tucked it into Burberry’s black flared trousers.
However, Markle’s choice of color is not so royal. According to Christine Ross, Meghan’s Mirror editor, there is a “no-black rule” in the royal dressing protocols, which Prince Harry’s fiancée bends this time.
“Meghan is already showing us that she is carving her own path as a royal. She is pushing the royal envelope with her style choices,” Ross told E! News. “Royalty almost never wears black, except for somber occasions, so today’s look was a surprise for royal watchers. The no-black rule is followed by every major royal woman around the world. Meghan looked very chic and professional, but I don’t imagine we will see much more black after the wedding.”
Ross added that it was surprising to see Markle in trousers, which is appropriate for formal events but royals don’t usually wear. In fact, Kate Middleton is rarely seen in it during royal engagements, which made Ross believed that the “Horrible Bosses” actress is making her own dress code.
“Her choice to wear trousers was a pleasant surprise to many as well. Bootcut black trousers are such a professional, timeless style, especially for more formal events,” Ross added. “We almost never see the Duchess of Cambridge wearing them and this really shows that Meghan is not taking style notes from anyone. She’s doing it her own way, and staying true to herself as her role in the royal family grows.”
This is not the first time Markle reportedly bends the royal protocol. According to MSN, she broke it several times in the past by not wearing nude stockings during her engagement photocall with Prince Harry and by spending Christmas with the royals which is the first time for a royal fiancée. In addition, her regular PDA with the royal prince is not a thing that the queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge do.
Prince Harry and Markle are tying the knot on May 19 at St. George in Windsor Castle. According to an insider, the couple was denied their dream royal wedding venue. Initially, the duke and the actress wanted to hold the reception at the Frogmore House, but they were offered St George’s Hall because it is more “practical.”
