Princess Diana’s Heartbreaking Final Words Revealed Twenty Years After Her Death
With a royal wedding and another royal baby on the way, it’s hard not to think about Princess Diana.
Though the Princess of Wales died over twenty years ago at this point, details around her death are still fascinating. And believe it or not, we’re learning more about that tragic day as time goes on!
Now, for instance, we finally know what her last-ever words were before she passed away.
The reveal comes via Xavier Gourmelon, a first responder who was on the scene of the car accident that took her life in August 1997 at the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.
The firefighter opens up for the first time about his final moments with the People’s Princess, and what she said to him before she took her last breath.
“The car was in a mess and we just dealt with it like any road accident,” Xavier relayed to British paper, The Sun.
“We got straight to work to see who needed help and who was alive. The woman, who I later found out was Princess Diana, was on the floor in the back. She was moving very slightly and I could see she was alive. I could see she had a slight injury to her right shoulder but, other than that, there was nothing significant. There was no blood on her at all.”
The now 50-year-old says the victim was alive and her eyes open when he pulled her out of the back seat of the Mercedes.
She looked to be in such okay shape, Xavier recalled, that he really thought the mom of two was going to survive the crash.
“I massaged her heart and a few seconds later she started breathing again,” he continued.
“It was a relief of course because, as a first responder, you want to save lives — and that’s what I thought I had done. To be honest I thought she would live. As far as I knew when she was in the ambulance she was alive and I expected her to live. But I found out later she had died in hospital. It was very upsetting.”
But beforehand, Di uttered a heartbreaking phrase to Xavier.
“My god, what’s happened?” she reportedly said before she lost consciousness.
It’s unclear why the firefighter is speaking out now, but we’re sure the hooplah of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement is bringing a new light to Princess Di’s death.
In fact, in their first interview since their engagement, the future Duke of Sussex said his mum and his fiancée would’ve been “best friends” had she been alive to meet her.
“Oh, they’d be thick as thieves, without question,” the 33-year-old said.
“I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends… best friends with Meghan. So, you know, it is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news.”
We’re sure she’s looking down on you in that sparkly tiara of hers, Harry!
