Honouring England’s Rose: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding tribute to Princess Diana

Simply stunning.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, on May 19th, is just around the corner.

And the wedding planning is in full bloom.

With all the organising, it’s clear the royal couple are highlighting the things that are nearest to their heart.

And that includes Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

Wedding prep is in full bloom!

Harry and Meghan will pay tribute to the People’s Princess by using white roses in their floral arrangement, known as one of Princess Diana’s favourite flowers.

In fact, last year, to mark the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing, a temporary garden was erected at Kensington Palace’s sunken garden – filled with white roses.

Named the “White Garden” – William and Harry worked on the personal project, producing a stunning tribute which saw large terracotta pots filled with white roses placed around the reflective pond.

The royal wedding floral arrangement will also feature Meghan Markle’s favourite flower, peonies.

The bride-to-be used to regularly share the colourful flowers on her now-deleted Instagram page.

In one post, she penned, “Swooning over these,” with the hashtag, #spoiledrotten.

A few weeks ago, Kensington Palace confirmed that Meghan and Harry’s florist on the day will be Philippa Craddock (who has a studio in Fulham and Selfridges in London) and that she is set to select blooms from the Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park gardens.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen floral designer @philippacraddock to create the church flowers for their wedding,” a statement from the palace read.

“The displays in St George’s Chapel will feature foliage from The Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park, and will use seasonal plants including branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves. The designs will reflect the wild and natural landscapes from which many of the plants will be drawn.”

“The Royal Parks will also supply some pollinator-friendly plants from their wildflower meadows, which will be incorporated into the floral designs. These plants provide a great habitat for bees and help to nurture and sustain entire ecosystems by promoting a healthy and biodiverse environment.”

In a touching tribute, after their wedding the couple will donate the flowers to charitable organisations.

Upon her royal appointment, Philippa Craddock said: “I am excited and honoured to have been chosen by Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle to design and create their wedding flowers. Working with them has been an absolute pleasure.”

“The process has been highly collaborative, free-flowing, creative and fun. The final designs will represent them as a couple, which I always aim to achieve in my work, with local sourcing, seasonality and sustainability being at the forefront.”
